The number of murders in Los Angeles dropped again last year…and the number of overall crimes dropped as well.   But more homeless people were the victims of crime.…and more pedestrians…died.

Police Chief Michel Moore says there was a 7 % drop in Part 1 crime, which includes murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and car theft, and that equates to about 9,000 fewer crimes last year compared to the year before.

Moore says there were 253 homicides last year, down a half dozen from a year earlier.

Traffic collisions were also down too, with fewer deaths in accidents, even though more pedestrians are getting killed.

Moore adds that the highest number of fatal hit-and-runs happened in South LA, and many went unsolved. The department says it plans to address that.
