The Kevin Durant Free Agency Sweepstakes is Officially On

(KGMZ) - Kevin Durant made his first big decision of the offseason on Wednesday and declined a one-year option for $31.5 million to stay with the Golden State Warriors, officially making him an unrestricted free agent, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Durant, 30, was long expected to decline the option until he tore his Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, resulting in season-ending surgery.

The recovery time is six to nine months and the surgery cast some doubt on whether he would indeed enter free agency or remain with the Warriors as he rehabs.

Durant will be looking to sign a max contract, but any team that signs him will do so knowing that he may not play the 2019-20 season. The New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers are all expected to pursue Durant.
