August 13, 2019 - 4:52 pm

The death of three dogs, killed after they were exposed to toxic algae in North Carolina, is creating new concerns about whether that could happen here.

State Water Boards environmental scientist Keith Bouma-Gregson tells KNX, the answer is yes.

Toxic algae has been found in a number of lakes across California including Pyramid Lake near Castaic and Silverwood Lake in San Bernardino County.

You have to drink the algae to be at risk.

Bouma-Gregson says that puts children and dogs in the greatest danger.
