Going to the Beach? It could get More Expensive

July 23, 2019 - 7:21 am

It could cost you more to go to the beach.

Southern California beach-goers could soon be asked to shell out more for a day by the shore, as Los Angeles County supervisors are poised to approve a set of fee increases today.

Los Angeles County officials say they’re taking a $20 million dollar hit on maintaining and operating the beaches.

It would be the first hike in a decade if the fees are approved. About 50 million people use L.A. County beaches every year, according to a story in the Los Angeles Times.

The proposal would help parking fees at several beaches, including Dockweiler State Beach, and also include new fees for camper vans and birthday parties.

For example, in Venice, there would be a $1 a day increase in the winter on weekdays in the lots. At Dockweiler RV Park the fee would increase by $10 a day.

Daily parking could go up by a dollar. Kayak rentals would go from $10 per hour to $25.
