BREAKING: Fast-Burning Dam Fire Blackens Hundreds of Acres in Hills Above Azusa

A mandatory evacuation was ordered and a highway was closed as firefighters work to put down a blaze near Azusa on Thursday afternoon. 

Named the Dam Fire, it began burning before 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the 9500 block of North San Gabriel Canyon Road, near Morris Dam in the Angeles National Forest in the hills above Azusa. 

As of Friday, the fire has burned 240 acres and is 40% contained.

The fire moved in lightning speed, charring hundreds of acres within hours, crews currently have the fire contained at 40%. 

At least 100 firefighters have been dispatched to fire with more than a dozen aircraft battling flames from the air.
