There's an additional confirmed measles case in LA County.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating the measles case Thursday and urging residents, especially those who travel internationally and those who have not been fully protected against measles, to get the measles immunization in order to better protect themselves and prevent the spread of the disease.

This is the county's 18th confirmed measles case this year.

“For those who are not protected, measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that initially causes fever, cough, red, watery eyes, and, finally, a rash,” said Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, Los Angeles County Health Officer, in an LA County Department of Public Health press release. “Measles is spread by air and by direct contact even before you know have it. The MMR immunization is a very effective measure to protect yourself and to prevent the unintentional spread of this potentially serious infection to others.”

Health officials say a local resident had just returned from a trip and went to a number of places over the weekend below.
