The CDC is warning people not to eat romaine lettuce from the Salinas Valley.

The product has been linked to a particularly dangerous type of E-coli that's made 40 people sick in 16 states.

Consumer Reports' Dr. Michael Hansen tells KNX this warning comes almost exactly one year after romaine lettuce from California triggered a nationwide recall.

Hansen adds that the FDA needs to have more authority to test for E-coli and other types of bacterial contamination before it gets into the food supply.

No deaths have been reported by this latest outbreak.

The recalled salad products were sold under different brands, but the "use by" dates are from October 29, 2019, to November 1, 2019.
