As California's new gun law, requiring background checks goes into effect today, gun owners are stocking up on ammunition.
Prop 63, passed by voters in 2016, makes California is the first state in the country to require background checks for ammo purchases.
Gun shops are seeing a surge in sales across the state. All ammo now needs to be bought in-person, even if it's initially paid for online.
“We're probably up by 400% from where we were last year for this past month, and this month, in total sales,” Daniel Kash, president of the L.A.-based store LAX Ammunition told USA today. "People are stocking up right now, basically.”
