Bars in Riverside County will close beginning Tuesday.

That's an order from the Riverside County Public Health Officer a day after Gov. Newsom recommended Riverside County shut down its bars.

There have been 440 deaths, 16,634 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 222,796 who have been tested, according to the Riverside County Public Health website.

Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the Riverside County Public Health Officer, made the announcement on Twitter Monday afternoon.

“People don’t social distance well after a couple drinks, and it’s one of the hardest environments to trace contacts in,” said Kaiser. “My hope is that this will be only temporary and further closures won’t be needed, but it all depends on what every one of us as a county do to slow more spread.”

"Brewpubs, breweries, bars, and pubs, shall close until those establishments are allowed to resume operation per state guidance and local permission, unless they are offering sit-down, dine-in meals. Alcohol can only be sold in the same transaction as a meal," according to a Riverside County Health press release.  "Dine-in restaurants, brewpubs, breweries, bars, and pubs that provide sit-down meals shall follow the dine-in restaurant guidance and should continue to encourage takeout and delivery service whenever possible. Alcohol can only be sold in the same transaction as a meal. Bar areas within a dine-in restaurant that cannot follow the dine-in restaurant guidance shall close."

The effective date is June 30 at 2:01 a.m.

"Due to the rising spread of #COVID19, CA is ordering bars to close in Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, San Joaquin, and Tulare, while recommending they close in Contra Costa, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Stanislaus, & Ventura," Newsom said in a tweet on Sunday.

Los Angeles County saw its highest daily COVID-19 cases and record hospitalizations.
