A single-engine plane crashed and caught fire Wednesday just east of Corona Municipal Airport.

Four people died in the crash.

The Corona Fire Department tweeted that there was an incident involving a plane crash at Corona Airport.

The airport is closed and there were three to four occupants in the plane, according to the tweet.

The plane had 80 gallons of fuel, the tweet said, and a fire was extending into the vegetation.

As of a few minutes ago, the 1/4 acre fire was contained.

Reports from the scene indicate that the pilot and three passengers were killed. It was unclear whether the pilot was departing or approaching the single runway.
